The draw for the 2025 ASB Classic in Auckland has been released, as the players are gearing up to kick off the season with a WTA 250 event.

In the past two seasons, the ASB Classic in Auckland was dominated by Coco Gauff. The young American won back-to-back titles at the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland, but she chose a different approach in 2025.

As a result, the 2025 edition of the ASB Classic, which will be held from December 30th, 2024, to January 5th, 2025, will be without the defending champion in the field, but that doesn't mean that the field will be weak, quite the opposite.

Multiple Grand Slam champions signed up to play in Auckland. Leading the field is the four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka, who already has a seeding status thanks to her relatively successful 2024 season.

The Japanese player will be the seventh seed, and in the first round, she will start against one of the qualifiers. Her possible second-round opponent could be Julia Grabher or another qualifier.

If Osaka makes it to the quarter-finals, she could play against the second-seeded Elise Mertens, who was drawn into a part with two wild cards. One of them is her first-round opponent, Vivian Yang, who is a 19-year-old player from New Zealand.

One of the wild cards was given also to Simona Halep, but she withdrew from the tournament. Another wild card recipient was Renata Jamrichova, who is a 17-year-old super talent and a two-time junior Grand Slam winner.

Jamrichova, who is a left-handed player, will play against Hailey Baptiste in the first round, and if she succeeds, her second-round opponent might be the second-seeded Mertens.

Another Grand Slam champion in the draw is Emma Raducanu. The sixth-seeded Brit will play against Robin Montgomery in the opening round, and if she wins, her next opponent will be the winner of the match between a qualifier and Jule Niemeier.

Sofia Kenin is also one of the players who won a Grand Slam in her career. The American, however, won't be among the seeded players. She will start against Xiyu Wang, and her second-round opponent can be the fifth-seeded Clara Tauson, who will play against a qualifier.

That's still not the end of the list when it comes to Grand Slam winners. Another major champion, Sloane Stephens, will play in Auckland as well. The 31-year-old American will start against fellow compatriot Ann Li.

The player she beat in that 2017 US Open final was Madison Keys, who will be the top seed in Auckland. She will play against Lucia Bronzetti in the first round of the tournament.
