One of the most popular grass-court events will be held for the 32nd time in 2025, and the
draw has been released for this year's
Halle Open.
The Halle Open is one of the most popular grass-court tournaments on the calendar. If there was one man who could get credit for that, it would certainly be Roger Federer, who won the tournament 10 times. The Swiss Maestro even has a street named after him near the arena where the Halle Open is played.
Obviously, since he is already retired, Federer won't add any more trophies to his collection. At the time of making the draw, he enjoyed waving the flag to open the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But there will be many challengers trying to follow in Federer's footsteps in Halle.
One of them will be
Jannik Sinner. The Italian player won the tournament last year. It was his first tournament as the World No. 1 player, and 12 months later, he still occupies the top spot in the
ATP Rankings.
Sinner is the top seed in Halle, and he will start against one of the qualifiers in the opening round. Should he pass that test, the three-time Grand Slam champion could take on a fellow former champion.
Alexander Bublik won the event in 2023, and he will have a chance to challenge the most recent champion. To do that, the Kazakhstani player must first beat
Alexandre Muller in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament.
Bublik isn't the only former champion in Sinner's quarter. If the World No. 1 player beats the 2023 champion, he could take on the 2022 champion,
Hubert Hurkacz. The Polish player will start against
Tomas Machac in the first round of the tournament.
On the opposite side of the draw for the tournament, which runs from June 16th to June 22nd, is the second-seeded
Alexander Zverev. The German player will come to Halle after playing the Stuttgart Open final, and he will play against
Marcos Giron in his opening match.
Zverev, like Sinner, also has a former champion in his quarter.
Ugo Humbert won the tournament in 2021, and he will be the sixth seed this year. The Frenchman will start against
Denis Shapovalov in the first round of the tournament. The winner of this match could meet 18-year-old
Joao Fonseca in the second round.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will be in an unusual position in Halle. He is used to being a seeded player every time he enters a tennis tournament, but for the first time in more than half a decade, he will play a tournament without being a seed. The Greek player will play his first such match since the 2018 Cincinnati Open against Luciano Darderi.
