The draw for the 2025 Dallas Open has been made. US fans can look forward to a packed week of action at the ATP 500 event.
Sports fans in Dallas might have been stunned by the trade of their NBA team, which saw Luka Doncic leave in the trade for Los Angeles' Lakers Anthony Davis. After the departure of their best player, some fans might want to change sports and enjoy some tennis action.
In that sense, the 2025 Dallas Open couldn't come at a better time. The ATP 500 event will be held from February 3rd until 9th at the Ford Center at the Star, and this year will mark the tournament's first edition as an ATP 500 event.
In the previous seasons, the Dallas Open was an ATP 250 tournament, but that changed this year, and the draw reflects that. In 2024, Tommy Paul won the title in Dallas. He won a three-set battle against Marcos Giron.
Both of them are set to compete in 2025 as well, and both were given an incredibly challenging draw. The third-seeded Paul will start against compatriot Jenson Brooksby, who received a wild card.
Brooksby returned to the sport after a lengthy suspension only recently. He is a former ATP World No. 33 player, so beating him certainly won't be an easy task for Paul.
Giron, on the other hand, was drawn against the second-seeded Casper Ruud. So both last year's finalists might even lose in the first round of this year's tournament, which shows the incredible strength of the field.
The top-seeded Taylor Fritz received a very spicy draw. The American player will play against Arthur Rinderknech. The two share quite a bit of history, as both of their previous meetings were a bit heated.
The first one happened at the 2023 Roland Garros when Rinderknech was heavily supported by the French crowd. Fritz won the match, but he was heavily booed by Rinderknech's fans.
One year later, they met at the Wimbledon Championships. Prior to their meeting in London, the French player didn't choose the nicest words when talking about his opponent. After the match, Fritz told Rinderknech to "have a nice flight home."
Fritz won both of their matches in four sets, and he will have a chance to complete a three-peat against the Frenchman on home soil. This time, the rowdy crowd will be supporting him.
Ben Shelton, who is the fourth seed, also won't have the easiest draw. The American player will meet Aleksandar Vukic, who recently made his Davis Cup debut for Australia.
The fifth-seeded Frances Tiafoe will play against Taro Daniel in the first round. Tiafoe can meet the second-seeded Ruud already in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
