It has been a quiet week as far as the ATP rankings are concerned, but Carlos Alcaraz has cause for celebration.
The Spaniard is celebrating a landmark achievement. It's his 100th consecutive week in the world's Top 5. He first broke into that high tier on July 25th, 2022, climbing from 6th to 5th, a day after being a runner-up in Hamburg (lost to Lorenzo Musetti).
Alcaraz went on to win his first Grand Slam at the US Open that year and consequently became the youngest World No. 1 in ATP history. While he has fallen to World No. 3 at some point this season, the 21-year-old has never left the top five in two years, highlighting his rapid ascent.
Aside from clinching the no. 1 ranking (after spending 36 weeks there) and winning the US Open, Alcaraz also triumphed at Wimbledon last year, beating Novak Djokovic in the final, and at the 2024 Roland Garros a week ago.
He is among the Top 10 highest earners on the ATP Tour, with over $30 million in career prize money. With his maiden French Open title, Alcaraz climbed back into the top two and is now just behind new World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the rankings.
The three-time Grand Slam champion will begin his grass-court campaign at London's Queen's Club. Alcaraz is defending 500 points in West Kensington after he won his first title on the lawns last year.
He can't climb above Sinner even if he wins the Cinch Championships and Wimbledon because he is not gaining any points. Therefore, the earliest he can do so will probably be during the North American hard-court swing.
He is expected to be a busy fixture in the next two months, with the Olympics also part of his schedule. Alcaraz will compete in singles and doubles in Paris.
