Alcaraz Admits He 'Left Miami Happy' Despite Disappointing Loss To Dimitrov

Carlos Alcaraz is excited to get back to tennis at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters after leaving Miami happy despite the upsetting loss to Grigor Dimitrov.

Alcaraz had high hopes in Miami after going all the way to the Indian Wells trophy so spectacularly. The Spanish player had won the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami before, so he was pretty confident about his chances to do so again.

His play reflected that feeling, but things fell apart quite quickly against Dimitrov, who played an amazing match to beat him. The Bulgarian ultimately didn't go all the way, as he was beaten by Jannik Sinner in the final, whom Alcaraz bested in Indian Wells.

The loss to Dimitrov was painful for Alcaraz, who was disappointed by the way he played but still left the city happy. Speaking recently after receiving the award for the best sportsman in Spain, Alcaraz admitted that he couldn't wait to be back on the court because his last two events went much better than those before them.

"I can’t wait, I’m really excited. The two most recent tournaments have been really good, both in terms of my level and my state of mind. It was a shame to lose to Dimitrov [in Miami], but I left happy with how I was feeling on court. I’m ready to have another good clay swing."

Alcaraz on his tennis lately

Indeed, the 20-year-old does seem to enjoy playing tennis again which is very good to see. Monte Carlo hasn't been the best place for him in the past, which is surprising, given he's such an amazing clay player.

Perhaps this is the year Alcaraz finally produces a really good performance at the first ATP Masters 1000 clay-court event, though competition is high. Novak Djokovic has played well in Monte Carlo in the past, as have Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Jannik Sinner.
