This year's Barcelona Open, running from April 15th to 21st, is a must-see tournament, and details of prize money have been released.
For the past two seasons, Carlos Alcaraz has reigned supreme at his home tournament. In fact, the Spaniards account for six of the past seven champions at the event, including Rafael Nadal's three-peat between 2016 and 2018.
Alcaraz will not defend the title this year because of concerns of an arm injury. He is taking extra precautions with more important tournaments coming up during the clay swing, including Madrid and Roland Garros.
Understandably, he has elected to withdraw instead of risking his body. But 12-time champion Nadal will play. This is expected to be his first tournament since recovering from a hip injury in Brisbane.
The draw for the tournament has already been released, and the 37-year-old former World No. 1 learned the identity of his first-round opponent to be Italy's Flavio Cobolli. Should he win that one, then fourth seed Alex de Minaur awaits.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, and Andrey Rublev are among the players in contention to win this year's Barcelona Open. Nicolas Jarry, Fabian Marozsan, Ugo Humbert, and Matteo Arnaldi are potential dark horses.
This year's financial package stands at an impressive €2,782,960, which is marginally higher than last year's total. The allocation of prize money begins from the first round. These players get €10,855 but won't receive any points.
Winning at least one main draw match equates to €20,350 and 25 points. Those who make it to the third round earn €37,175 and 50 points. The quarterfinalists will each pocket €70,550 on top of 100 ranking points.
