From May 28th to June 11th, 2023, the second Grand Slam tournament will be held at the Roland Garros, the French Open, and the entry list was released.
The only major on the clay courts gives specialists on the red dirt a great chance to earn some valuable ranking points and show their qualities to the world. One of the players who made a career of being the greatest player on clay in the history of the sport is Rafael Nadal, a 14-time Roland Garros winner, who won also last year and wanted to defend his title in 2023.
But the Spaniard is struggling with injuries this year and was forced to withdraw from the tournament. That gives a great chance to his greatest rival, Novak Djokovic. The Serb won a Grand Slam title in Paris twice and with his great form in 2023, he will be one of the top favourites to add his third.
Carlos Alcaraz is also one of the names that will be among the favourites. The young Spanish prodigy won his first major in Flushing Meadows and he will be certainly looking to add another after being forced to miss the 2023 Australian Open due to an injury.
But the 2023 Roland Garros, also referred to as the French Open, won't be only about these three players. Last year, Casper Ruud played in the final in Paris and he will want to achieve the same result also this year.
One player that will be coming back to the Roland Garros with bad memories from last year is Alexander Zverev. The German suffered a horrific injury last year and he will want to forget it with another good showing this year.
But the list of potential favourites doesn't end there. The likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Andrey Rublev, who recently lifted his first ATP 1000 title, will all want to prove that they are ready to win a Grand Slam.
Youngsters such as Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner will be also waiting for their opportunity to stun the tennis world and achieve the same result as Carlos Alcaraz was able to achieve last year at the US Open.
There are also some names missing from the Roland Garros ATP entry list. One of them is Jenson Brooksby who is struggling with injuries, but also Dominic Thiem, who is the third alternate, and most likely, he will enter the main draw after a few expected withdrawals.
