The 2022 Swiss Indoors in Basel will be played for the first time since 2019 and it will be held from October 24th until 30th in St. Jakobshalle without a defending champion.
Since 2006, the Swiss Indoors in Basel was won a total of 10 times by Roger Federer, who is also the defending champion. However, the Swiss Maestro isn't on the entry list of this year's event since he ended his career at the 2022 Laver Cup alongside his good friend Rafael Nadal.
Despite Federer's absence, four players that competed at this year's Laver Cup will appear in Switzerland. 2019 finalist, Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime, who were part of the winning team are two of the players on the entry list. Also two Team Europe members, Casper Ruud and Andy Murray will compete at the 2022 Swiss Indoors in Basel.
The entry list is led by the youngest world number 1 in the history of men's tennis, Carlos Alcaraz. After winning his first Grand Slam title, the young Spaniard played two Davis Cup matches and the 2022 Swiss Indoors in Basel will be only his second ATP event as world number 1.
2022 Wimbledon finalist, Nick Kyrgios will also travel to Switzerland after he plays another ATP 500 event in Tokyo. Likes of Pablo Carreno Busta, Marin Cilic, Roberto Bautista Agut and Stan Wawrinka will also play at the event that was dominated by Roger Federer throughout the years.
