Now that all of the Grand Slam tournaments of the 2024 season are over, we can establish who the best performers at majors were this year.
Like every year, the season started Down Under in Australia, where players competed at the first major tournament of the season, the Australian Open, which is played on the hard courts in Melbourne.
After that, players moved to Europe for the clay-court part of the season, culminating with the Roland Garros, before a short turnaround for the Wimbledon Championships.
Then, some chose to compete at the Paris Olympics, and others headed immediately to the United States to prepare for the US Open. This paid off for some, while others struggled.
All in all, one player was head and shoulders above the rest of the field on the WTA Tour when it came to the Grand Slams in 2023, while there were also some pleasant surprises.
5. Coco Gauff (2,040 points)
Despite not having a very successful season and failing to defend her US Open title, Coco Gauff was one of the best performers at the Grand Slams in 2024.
It all started with a run to the Australian Open semi-finals for the young American, where she was stopped by the eventual champion, Aryna Sabalenka. She then reached the same stage at the French Open, once again being stopped by the eventual winner, Iga Swiatek.
The last two majors of the season were a bit less successful for Gauff, as she reached 'only' the fourth round at both the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open.
Still, her results at majors in 2024 accumulated her a total of 2,040 points, which was enough for her to place fifth when it comes to best performers at Grand Slam in 2024.
4. Barbora Krejcikova (2,510 points)
The fourth most successful female tennis player in majors in 2024 is a bit surprising but well-deserved. Barbora Krejcikova lost already in the first round of the French Open and in the second round of the US Open, but elsewhere, she was spectacular.
The Czech player played in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open at the start of the year, but the highlight of her season came at Wimbledon, where she won her second career singles major title.
As such, she collected 2,000 points for her win, significantly contributing to her total of 2,510 points earned at Grand Slams, which put her in fourth place.
3. Iga Swiatek (2,690 points)
Iga Swiatek might be the reigning World No. 1 player on the WTA Tour, but she was 'only' the third-best performer at Grand Slams. She won the Roland Garros for the third consecutive year, but outside of that, the Polish player didn't record any significant results.
She lost already in the third round of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and at the US Open, she reached 'only' the quarter-final stage.
Mostly thanks to her French Open win, she accumulated a total of 2,690 points, which made her the third-best female performer at Grand Slams in 2024.
2. Jasmine Paolini (3,080 points)
The biggest surprise of the 2024 season was certainly Jasmine Paolini. Prior to this season, the Italian player never made it past the second round at a Grand Slam tournament, but this year, she completely shattered all expectations.
It started at the Australian Open, where she never got past the first round, but this time, she made it to the second week, reaching the fourth round of the Melbourne Slam.
After that, she recorded the best result of her tennis career, reaching the Roland Garros final after previously winning only three first-round matches in Paris.
Her success didn't stop there. Paolini went on to reach also the Wimbledon final, after previously failing in the first round of the tournament every single time.
To cap off an incredible year at a major level, she reached the second week also at the US Open, despite previously winning only one match at the tournament.
In total, she collected 3,080 points at Grand Slams in 2024, making her the second-best performer on the WTA Tour in majors.
1. Aryna Sabalenka (4,430 points)
There can't be any discussion about who was the best player in majors in 2024. Aryna Sabalenka was absolutely dominant, losing only one match at the Grand Slam level this year.
She started the season with a victory at the Australian Open before reaching the Roland Garros quarter-finals, where she was surprisingly beaten by teenage prodigy Mirra Andreeva.
After that, the Belarusian player was forced to withdraw from the Wimbledon Championships, making her Grand Slam record even more impressive, as she competed in only three, not four, Grand Slam tournaments.
Forgetting the Wimbledon disappointed, Sabalenka was the best player at the US Open, becoming the only woman to win two majors in 2024.
Thanks to her results, she collected 4,430 points at Grand Slams in 2024, which allowed her to attack Swiatek for her World No. 1 spot.
