Krejcikova And Siniakova To Reunite For Olympics Despite Weird Split

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova are considered among the most successful and dominant doubles teams of the current generation and are set to join forces at the Olympics.

Krejcikova and Siniakova had mutually agreed to split at the end of the 2023 season, a decision that was largely on Siniakova's part since she was the one to pull the trigger, citing the need for "change." Still, they did not rule out a reunion in the future.

Four months into the new season, it was clear that Siniakova's ambitions were geared toward focusing on her singles career. However, she has been very active on the doubles court, partnering with Storm Hunter for the most part until the Australian suffered a ruptured Achilles last month.

Earlier this year, Krejcikova admitted that she was open to reuniting with Siniakova in doubles and playing at the Paris Olympics but that she did not have the free will to make that decision.

And on Friday, Siniakova responded to Krejcikova's call and will team up with her compatriot in pursuit of a second gold medal at the Olympics. In an exclusive interview with Canal+ Sport, the unorthodox World No. 36 confirmed this.

"Everyone expected us to play together, so I can confirm that it will be like that. Everyone expected us to play together, so I can confirm that it will be like that."

Krejcikova told Canal+ Sport CZ (translated in English)

Krejcikova recently withdrew from the Italian Open in Rome due to health reasons. Siniakova was knocked out from the singles tournament by Elise Mertens but is due to play in doubles with Taylor Townsend.

The two Czechs are former World No. 1s in doubles although they haven't played together since the Billie Jean King Cup Finals last November. Siniakova is hoping that they can squeeze in a match or two before the Olympics to acclimatize to the courts, but it won't be necessary because of their great chemistry.

"We'll see. I would be happy if we could manage a match together before Paris. But it wouldn't matter if it didn't work out. It wouldn't be the first time."
