Sofia Kenin will return to the Top 100 on the WTA Tour after he win over Ana Bogdan at the 2023 US Open.

The 24-year-old American hasn't played a single match since her third-round loss at the 2023 Wimbledon, and it was in London where Kenin secured a Top 100 return after more than a year.

But since then, she exited the Top 100, yet, after the 2023 US Open, another return awaits Kenin. It comes after she successfully navigated her first-round match against world no. 60, Ana Bogdan from Romania.

The two met twice in the past, with each winning one of the matches in three sets. This time, it was a different story, as Kenin wanted to return to winning ways after yet another injury that kept her out of play.

But her opponent was the first one to get a chance to close out the first set. It came after the American wasn't able to use any of her two break points in the sixth and eighth game, and while Bogdan used one of her two chances in game number seven.

However, the Romanian's advantage didn't last long, as Kenin was able to break back and take the opening set to the tie-break. In the tie-break, the American was the better player, winning it 7-2 and securing a 1-0 lead after the first set.

In the second set, Bogdan was the better player early on once again. Yet again she was more successful on break points, securing an early 3-0, and late 4-1 lead. But since then, the former Australian Open champion controlled the match.

Kenin won five consecutive games and after an hour and 53 minutes, she won the match 7-6(2), 6-4 to reach the second round of the 2023 US Open and secure yet another return to the Top 100 of the WTA Rankings.
