Jessica Pegula will have double duty at the WTA Finals in Forth Worth as the American qualified for both events.
Pegula competed in both singles and doubles in the San Diego Open, and she earned a few victories in each draw to officially qualify for the singles and doubles competitions at the WTA Finals. In singles, her doubles partner Coco Guaff will also be there and she will be quite dangerous in both the singles and the doubles.
“Yeah. it’s awesome. I think that was a goal for both of us, to qualify for singles and doubles. So I’m glad we’re able to say that and achieve that goal. I’m really happy.” said Pegula after the duo scored another win together.
She follows in the footsteps of Barbora Krejcikova, who competed in both singles and doubles in Guadalajara the previous year. Lately, the top-ranked players hardly ever play doubles frequently enough to be taken into consideration so not many players have done what Pegula did this year.
“It’s a huge achievement for me in both singles and doubles. And to do it with another American is really cool. I’m just super-happy. It’s paying off, all my hard work and all the matches I’ve played this year. It’s been a long year, and it’s just a great reward.”
