Boxing legend Mike Tyson showered Coco Gauff in praise during an appearance on the Advantage Connors podcast, where he spoke about her career and future.
Tyson might be a controversial figure overall, but when it comes to sports and, more specifically, boxing, he’s a legend. There haven’t been many fighters like Tyson, which earned him a lot of respect among his peers both in boxing and the sports world in general.
The American has been increasingly fond of tennis, being spotted around several tennis courts in recent years. One of the players he’s most impressed by is Coco Gauff.
He watched her blossom into a very good tennis player these days, compared to when she first showed up a couple of years ago. She’s getting closer and closer to the ultimate goal of winning a Grand Slam trophy, and Tyson has no doubt that she will get to one sometime in the future.
It’s more likely to happen sooner rather than later, but that will depend on a couple of factors. He’s a huge fan, and especially with how young she is, Tyson feels like there is a very bright future ahead of Gauff.
"I think she's amazing. She has something that most don't have and that's time. She has a lot of time to cultivate her skill to become a lot better. And that's what she has that I find most of the players don't at this time."
The most recent event Gauff played was the San Diego Open, where she looked really good until she ran into Iga Swiatek, who once again proved better than her.
While she’s yet to really find the level needed to beat some of the best players in the world, the American certainly has a bright future ahead if she keeps slowly progressing the way she has up to now.
