Iga Swiatek enjoys a huge success in 2022 and she will try to strengthen her world no. 1 spot also at this year's US Open.
The 21-years-old Pole broke records which seemed to be impossible to break. This season, she beat the winning streak of Serena and Venus Williams and won 6 trophies in a row while winning 37 matches. That included Iga Swiatek’s second Grand Slam title at the 2022 Roland Garros.
However, her only Grand Slam triumphs came on the Parisian clay and she’s yet to prove her qualities on grass or hard-courts. After losing in the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon to Alize Cornet, she will have a chance to show her strengths at the 2022 US Open.
But can Swiatek win the 2022 US Open. The draw will be packed with star names as usually and this time, it will probably include also Serena Williams who will be trying to win her 24th Grand Slam title. Despite not playing many matches this season, the legendary American is always a dangerous opponent, especially on the home soil.
Yet, there will be many more players that will attempt to stop Swiatek’s dominance. Emma Raducanu won the US Open last year and if she wants to remain in the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings, she will need to defend her title this year. In 2022, Ons Jabeur cemented her place in the Top 5 and showed very good performances throughout the season and she might give the young Pole a good fight.
But the list of challengers doesn’t end there. Naomi Osaka will start her US Open preparation in San Jose and the former world number 1 is two-time champion in the Flushing Meadows. Another former champion, Bianca Andreescu will also try to add another Grand Slam title to her collection as she seems to be 100% fit physically and mentally again.
Iga Swiatek can win the 2022 US Open, but it will be extremely difficult for her. The last Grand Slam of the season is usually the one which features the most surprising results and with the long list of former champions competing this year, Swiatek’s lack of experience from the courts in New York might prove to be the deciding factor. Yet, the young Pole proved many times this season that she’s here to break records and that fans should expect unexpected when she steps on the court.
