After dropping to the 83rd place of the WTA Rankings, Emma Raducanu is ready to start over again and she started with a victory at the 2022 Portoroz Open.
The 2021 US Open champion is the first-seeded player at the event and she played against Dayana Yastremska in the first round. It was an important match for Emma Raducanu who needed to get a solid victory after not winning a set in the previous two matches.
And that's exactly what the young Brit succeeded in doing as she won the first set 6-2 and marched towards and easy victory as she led 5-3 and 30-0 in the second set. However, her opponent called for a physio and eventually, she retired from the match. After the match, Raducanu spoke about her opponent's retirement, stating:
“Nobody wants to win due to a retirement,” said Raducanu. “Dayana is an extremely ferocious competitor. So I knew it was going to be a tough match going in. I'm really happy with the way that I stayed in the points and was fighting the whole way through. So I’m happy to be into the next round.”
"I came here really, really early and it's been really nice here. I think it's a beautiful place to have a tournament. Amazing views, great food so I'm loving my time here."
