After winning the US Open in 2022, Carlos Alcaraz will fly privately to represent Team Spain in the Davis Cup.
Tennis never stops, and Alcaraz's most recent patriotic act proves it. The 2022 US Open has been a career-changing experience for the young Spaniard, who won his maiden Grand Slam title and became the youngest world no. 1 in the history of ATP.
It's been an experience that will defy his career forever, but Alcaraz is not here to celebrate and throw big parties. He's a tennis player, and what he wants to do is play tennis, and he's proving that by representing his country in the 2022 Davis Cup Finals group stages.
The scheduling of the "World Cup of Tennis" is not ideal, as it's held shortly after the last major of the season, making it very difficult for players that make it deep at Flushing Meadows to compete also in the team competition, as those two tournaments are held on different continents.
Yet, according to the most recent reports, Alcaraz will take a private flight from New York to Valencia on Monday and arrive at the venue on Tuesday to join his team in a bid to secure a spot in the knockout stages.
Along with Alcaraz, the Spanish team will feature experienced players Roberto Bautista Agut, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers.
On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, they will compete against Serbia, Canada, and Korea. The Spaniard is electing not to rest after his tremendous US Open run which is risky but there is a chance he might not play much.
The goal will be to secure the country's spot in the knockout stages, which will be held after the ATP Finals, tournament, which the Spanish player should attend thanks to ranking points he accumulated during the 2022 season.
