Carlos Alcaraz won the 2022 US Open, and Nick Kyrgios was one of the players who predicted his triumph at the tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz made history on Sunday when he prevailed in the 2022 US Open final. At 19 years, four months, and six days old, he not only won his first Grand Slam championship but also broke the record for the youngest person to hold the No. 1 spot.

A few days prior to the start of the final major of the year, the Australian selected the prodigy to win at Flushing Meadows. Kyrgios was also one of the players that could have won the tournament, having reached the Wimbledon final only weeks prior.

However, the Australian lost in the quarterfinals of the tournament to Karen Khachanov in a five-set battle, and the Russian later went on to lose to Casper Ruud, who was eventually bested by the champion Alcaraz.

Already in August, the Wimbledon finalist shared Eurosport's picture on his Instagram story, which asked about which player is going to win the last Grand Slam tournament of the year.

Despite being on the list, Kyrgios selected Alcaraz, and a few weeks later, his prediction proved to be correct, after the young Spaniard surprised everyone at the year's final major.

It seems that the two may have also had a private discussion about that, as the Australian seemingly told his colleague from the ATP Tour that he was going to win the tournament, which eventually happened.

After Sunday's championship match, Alcaraz was questioned about Kyrgios' prophecy in a press conference. He revealed that he had already received a message from Kyrgios.

"Honestly, I checked the DM of Instagram. I saw Nick Kyrgios' message. I didn't read the whole message, but I read that he said, 'I told you' (smiling)."
