The 2024 Qatar Open will be a standalone WTA 1000 tournament and the second pitstop in the WTA's famed Middle East swing running from February 11th to 17th.
At least 15 of the world's Top 20 players will grace this event, which has always attracted the cream of the crop. This means even the absences of Aryna Sabalenka (rest), Jessica Pegula (neck), and Karolina Muchova (wrist) won't be felt in the slightest, given the star power.
The tournament has committed a record prize money package for the 2024 edition amounting to $3,211,715, which is four times last year's prize when the Qatar Open was held as a WTA 500 tournament.
The figure is still marginally higher than in past editions when Doha shared WTA 1000 hosting rights with Dubai. The players competing stand to profit handsomely. The two-time defending champion, Iga Swiatek, will be the big favorite, but she has plenty of challengers who could unseat her.
The likes of Jelena Ostapenko, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Caroline Garcia have either beaten Swiatek or taken at least a set from her in the past year. The likes of Barbora Krejcikova and new Chinese star Qinwen Zheng will also look to leave an imprint at the tournament.
Prize money breakdown and points distribution begin from the first round. Players who falter at this stage receive 10 points but pocket $14,800, which is among the highest for tournaments below Grand Slam level.
Second-rounders take home $20,650 and receive 65 points. To reach the last eight in Doha, players have to win three matches. Those who stumble in the third round will make $36,454 and tally three-digit ranking points of 120.
Quarterfinalists will earn $72,965 along with 215 points, while semifinalists will bank a six-figure cheque amounting to $158,944. They'll also receive 390 points. The two players who reach the championship match will earn more than anybody else.
The champion will earn a whopping $523,485 (however, still short of the tournament's record for the winner) and 1,000 points. Meanwhile, the runner-up makes $308,320 and will receive 650 points. Be sure to check the complete breakdown below.
