The 2024 Paris Olympics are right around the corner and the draw for the women's singles tournament has been revealed.
The Olympic Games are held only once in four years, and that's one of the reasons why they are so special. This year, the Olympics will be held from July 27th to August 4th, held at Roland Garros.
In 2021, Belinda Bencic won the gold medal, but she won't be defending her medal this year, as she gave birth to her first child only recently. Marketa Vondrousova won the silver medal, but she, too, will miss this year's Olympics, as she was forced to withdraw from the Olympic Games.
Elena Rybakina was the unlucky player, finishing fourth in 2021, and the Kazakhstani player, too, will miss the 2024 Paris Olympics. The only player who finished among the four best in 2021 and will compete also this year is bronze medalist Elina Svitolina, and she will start against Moyuka Uchijima in the opening round.
However, the biggest favorite, especially in the absence of Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka, who opted against competing at the Olympics this year, will be the World No. 1, Iga Swiatek, who will start against Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round of the tournament.
Already in the quarter-finals of the tournament, she could possibly take on her nemesis, Jelena Ostapenko, who will start against Maria Camila Osorio. On her way to the quarter-finals, the Latvian could take on Danielle Collins, who is the eighth seed.
On the other side of the draw is the second-seeded Coco Gauff, who will start against Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round of the tournament, and should she win, she will clash with the winner of the match between Tatjana Maria and Maria Lourdes Carle.
Jasmine Paolini has been the star of the recent weeks, having reached the Roland Garros and Wimbledon finals back-to-back, and as the fourth seed, she will start against Ana Bogdan, but already in the second round, she could take on Mirra Andreeva, who reached her first Tour-level final in Iasi, should the teenager beat Magda Linette.
One of the first-round blockbuster will see two former World No. 1 players clash. Naomi Osaka will take on Angelique Kerber, who announced that she will retire after the Paris Olympics. The full draw for the women's singles competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics can be seen below.
