The 2024 Austria Open Linz will start on January 29th, and the draw for the WTA 500 tournament was released.
The event in Linz was upgraded from a WTA 250 tournament to a WTA 500, and it's held immediately after the conclusion of the 2024 Australian Open, between January 29th and February 4th, alongside a WTA 250 tournament in Hua Hin.
Marketa Vondrousova was supposed to be the top seed at the tournament, but the Czech player withdrew from the event. Instead, Jelena Ostapenko took a wild card and entered the tournament as the top seed.
The Latvian will have a bye in the first round as all top four seeds, and after that, she'll play against a winner of the match between a qualifier and Camila Giorgi from Italy.
On the other side of the draw is the second-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova, who will start also either against a qualifier or Anna Blinkova, who stunned Elena Rybakina in Melbourne.
Former world no. 1, Angelique Kerber, will be also one of the interesting names at the event, and she'll start in the first round against Lucia Bronzetti, with the winner of the match taking on the fourth-seeded Elise Mertens from Belgium.
Britsh no. 1, Katie Boulter, will have a difficult start in Linz, taking on the sixth-seeded Jasmine Paolini, and the same may apply to the third-seeded Donna Vekic, who has a first-round bye.
