Mirra Andreeva, the 2025 Indian Wells Open champion, revealed that Bianca Andreescu was the only women's player who contacted her after she broke through at the 2023 Madrid Open.

Andreeva's progress during the last two years has been incredible. Many fans became aware of her for the first time when she reached the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships as a 16-year-old.

However, the teenager was already known to hardcore tennis fans from her run to the round of 16 at the 2023 Madrid Open as a wild card, where she defeated Leylah Fernandez, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Magda Linette.

Andreescu, the No. 23 seed during that year's Madrid Open, lost in her opening match to Xiyu Wang. But that did not stop the Canadian from showing classiness, kindness, and consideration after Andreeva's achievement.

During a press conference at the 2025 Miami Open, Andreeva was asked whether any player had ever given her advice, which led to her revealing Andreescu's gesture when she reached the round of 16 in Madrid.

"I can name one player. It was my first tournament in Madrid 2023... A breakthrough tournament for me. I was in the round of 16, and after the tournament, I got a message from Bianca Andreescu and I think she was the only female player that texted me."
"She said that if I ever needed any advice or support, then I can always reach out to her and have a chat or call or whatever. So, she was super nice about it. She also texted me after I won the last tournament."

Andreescu has a reputation for being among the friendliest players on the WTA Tour, and this is more evidence of that. Andreeva's admission that the 2019 US Open champion was the only women's player to reach out to her is striking.

The last few years have been injury-plagued for Andreescu, who is currently out after needing an emergency appendectomy. Her plan is to return for the clay court swing, but that is far from certain at this stage.

Andreeva hopes to continue her incredible recent form. Although the 17-year-old had shown progress for 18 months before February, her most significant breakthrough has come in the last few weeks.

The special talent won her first WTA 1000 title at the 2025 Dubai Championships. Her run to glory at the Middle Eastern tournament included victories against Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek, and prevailing in the final against Clara Tauson.

Some might have expected someone as young as Andreeva to experience a dip in form after such a momentous achievement. Instead, she played even better to win the 2025 Indian Wells Open and secure back-to-back WTA 1000 titles.

Andreeva beat Rybakina and Swiatek again before a dramatic comeback against the world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. That triumph took her to a career-high of No. 6 in the latest rankings.

She has a chance to claim an incredible third consecutive WTA 1000 title at the 2025 Miami Open. Her rivals at the top will be desperate to prevent that from happening.
