Coco Gauff honestly admitted that she wanted to lose a game during her 6-0, 6-0 thrashing of Sofia Kenin at the 2025 Miami Open.

Winning 6-0, 6-0 is very rare in tennis. Every day, there are hundreds of matches played across all levels of competition, and seeing a "double bagel" is very rare. It's even more rare when it comes at a WTA 1000 tournament when two former Grand Slam champions meet.

Gauff won the 2023 US Open, while Kenin triumphed at the 2020 Australian Open. In Miami, they met already in the second round, but it wasn't as exciting a match as it promised to be.

Gauff destroyed Kenin 6-0, 6-0, producing only the second such scoreline of her tennis career after previously double-bageling Arantxa Rus at the Madrid Open last year.

Although the scoreline might suggest that it was an easy win, it wasn't as easy as it might appear. Gauff had to stay calm, and she wanted to do everything to avoid facing any nerves because of the scoreline.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, as per Daily Express, Gauff admitted that she wanted to avoid having to face nerves late in the match, and that's why she wished she could lose one game in the match.

However, she was able to increase her lead to 6-0 and 5-0, and after she won the first point of the 12th game of the match, she felt like she could close it out, and she did, winning the match 6-0, 6-0.

"Honestly, when I was like 3-0, I was like, I kind of wanted to lose a game because I knew I was going to be nervous at 5-0. But once I got that first point, I was like, 'Okay, maybe I just need to get three more.'"
"I wanted it because I don’t know how many times it will happen again, hopefully a little bit more but I feel this is a one or two-time [in my] career type of thing."

Speaking during her post-match press conference, the 21-year-old American said that she was aware that the result came because of a combination of her good tennis and Kenin's bad level.

"I don't think she was sick or anything. Not that I noticed. I was definitely playing well today, and maybe she wasn't playing her peak great tennis. I don't think anyone who is playing their best tennis will have that scoreline today, so I'm not going to sit here and say she played her best tennis."
"I think it was a combination of me playing really well, it was really great tennis from me, and maybe her not playing as well."

Although Gauff might not be able to win every match she plays 6-0, 6-0, she will try to get as close as possible to that scoreline in her third-round match against Maria Sakkari.

The 2023 US Open champion bested Sakkari in Indian Wells without too many issues, and she will want to beat the Greek player one more time.
