Coco Gauff double-bageled Sofia Kenin in the second round of the 2025 Miami Open to reach the third round.

Gauff and Kenin are both players who have never excelled on the courts in Miami. In fact, neither of these two players has ever managed to get past more than two rounds at the Miami Open.

That was also one of the reasons why this draw was favorable for both, and another one was that they both know how it feels to beat the other one. They met four times before their meeting at the WTA 1000 event in Miami, with both winning two matches.

One of their key meetings happened at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. It was a first-round match, and Kenin won it in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. After that, Gauff called it one of the lowest points of her tennis career. Only a few months later, she went on to win the US Open.

Since then, Gauff got her revenge against Kenin, beating her at the Australian Open this year, 6-3, 6-3. But this time, she made sure she would really forget her loss against Kenin from 2023, as she recorded one of the most memorable results in her tennis career.

Prior to taking on the 2023 US Open champion, Kenin defeated former Miami Open champion Petra Kvitova. The American player beat the Czech 6-4, 7-5. However, she wasn't able to bring a similar level to her second-round match.

Gauff was really solid, but Kenin also helped the result by playing well below her level. Gauff won the first six points in the match, and she broke her opponent's serve as quickly as she could, leading 2-0 early on.

From there, the 21-year-old's lead only grew. She saved one break point on her serve to make it 3-0 and added another break to increase her lead to 4-0. After one more hold and one more break, Gauff won the first set of the match 6-0 in just 22 minutes of play.

Kenin certainly didn't like losing the opening set of this match 0-6, but she couldn't improve her performance in the second set. Gauff continued playing well and holding her serve while also breaking Kenin's.

In just 47 minutes of play, Gauff destroyed her compatriot, winning the match 6-0, 6-0, to reach the third round of the 2025 Miami Open. It was the second 6-0, 6-0 win of her tennis career, after previously beating Arantxa Rus with the same scoreline at the 2024 Madrid Open.

For Kenin, it wasn't her first 0-6, 0-6 loss, either. The American player previously lost with two bagels to Victoria Azarenka at the 2020 Italian Open in Rome.
