Jannik Sinner reflected on a fan trying to steal from him at the 2025 US Open, a shocking incident that generated much attention.
Sinner was signing autographs and interacting with fans after defeating Alexander Bublik. The defending champion thrashed Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, avenging his loss to the same man at the 2025 Halle Open.
That result against a player who had not lost serve once in the opening three rounds sent a message to the rest of the draw, and reminded fans why Sinner has been the best ATP hard court player since the start of 2024.
Unfortunately, one fan did not appreciate Sinner's generosity with his time and tried to steal from his bag. The Arthur Ashe Stadium security intervened before anything was taken from the Italian.
In a press conference after defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinal, Sinner was asked about that moment and how it made him feel. The 24-year-old admitted it had never happened until then, and praised security for swiftly intervening.
"No, I hadn't experienced it before. I checked straight away to see if he took something because I don't only have rackets there. I have my phone, I have my wallet, you know?"
"But I think the security is doing a great job, especially on the court. There are loads of security, and, especially at the big tournaments, they do an amazing job to make us feel safe. Even when new things like this happen, they do a great job to make us feel safe. So, everything is fine."
Some players might have been shaken by the moment and blamed the security for letting the man get that close. However, Sinner realized it was not their fault, and that incidents like this are possible when players get near fans to sign autographs and take pictures.
Sinner, like his great rival Carlos Alcaraz, seems like an easy guy to deal with in the press and off the court, but Alcaraz got particular recognition from the media at the US Open. The Spaniard received an award for being willing to speak with them.

Will Jannik Sinner make it five consecutive Grand Slam finals?

Only Felix Auger-Aliassime stands between Sinner and another major final. The world No. 1's defeat against Daniil Medvedev in the 2024 Wimbledon quarterfinal was his last defeat before the showpiece match at a Grand Slam.
Auger-Aliassime will need to play much better than their 2025 Cincinnati Open contest a few weeks ago. The Canadian got thrashed 0-6, 2-6, and never came close to competing against the four-time Grand Slam champion.
An upset will only be possible if Auger-Aliassime plays his best tennis from start to finish. Any drop in his level is guaranteed to be ruthlessly exposed by Sinner, who must be very confident of winning.
Carlos Alcaraz will face Novak Djokovic in the other semifinal. Although Sinner and Alcaraz have been the best ATP players since the start of 2024, Djokovic defeated the Spaniard in their last two meetings, most recently at the 2025 Australian Open.
