The 2025 French Open at Roland Garros's main draw does not start until May 25th, but the men's entry list for the season's second Grand Slam has already been unveiled.
Although all the clay tournaments are important, the top players target the French Open more than any other event. After losing at the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters, Novak Djokovic admitted the Grand Slam in Paris was his sole target.
Djokovic is on the entry list and hopes to win a fourth title, having triumphed at Roland Garros in 2016, 2021, and 2023. He would undoubtedly have won more had Rafael Nadal not been there to foil him repeatedly.
The Serbian's campaign at last year's iteration ended frustratingly. He fought through to the quarterfinal while struggling with a knee problem, but ultimately withdrew from the tournament before his match against Casper Ruud.
However, a couple of months later, Djokovic put that pain behind him by winning a gold medal at the Olympics, held at Roland Garros. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz to seal the one significant accolade he had been missing.
Alcaraz is the reigning French Open champion and will defend his title. He overcame Alexander Zverev in a five-set battle to win the prestigious title in Paris for the first time, having been touted to do so for a few years, since he grew up on clay.
The Spaniard made a perfect start to his 2025 clay court season by winning a maiden Monte Carlo Masters title. Alcaraz had never won a match at the tournament before this year, but performed impressively to triumph at the Masters 1000 event.
ATP World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will try to win his first title at Roland Garros. He fell to Alcaraz in five sets in last year's semifinal after struggling physically towards the end of the match. Although a heartbreaking ending, it was the Italian's best run in Paris.
Sinner has been banned since February 9th after settling his doping case, and will return at next month's Italian Open. The timing of the 23-year-old's ban meant he did not miss any Grand Slams.
Zverev has another chance to win a maiden major title. The most recent of the German's three final defeats came against Sinner at the 2025 Australian Open. Zverev previously admitted he thinks his best chance of securing a Grand Slam is at Roland Garros.
Jack Draper's expectations are probably lower than Zverev's, despite his recent epic run to the 2025 Indian Wells Open title. Clay has been the Briton's weakest surface and he lost in the opening round in both previous appearances at Roland Garros.
Casper Ruud's chances should never be ruled out. The Norwegian was the 2022 and 2023 runner-up and also reached last year's semifinal. Ruud often seems to fly under the radar despite his excellent record at the clay court Grand Slam.
2025 Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Ben Shelton, and Taylor Fritz are among the other names on the entry list. Nick Kyrgios, who has never hidden his dislike for clay, is not on the list for the tournament at Roland Garros.
