Alcaraz Wins Maiden Monte-Carlo Masters Title, Rises To World No. 2 Spot

Carlos Alcaraz is back in the winners' circle, winning the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters after a great comeback against Lorenzo Musetti.
Alcaraz last won an ATP Masters 1000 trophy at the Indian Wells Open last year. Since then, the Spaniard waited for another Masters trophy, and he finally managed to win it in Monte-Carlo.
The 21-year-old Spaniard has been great throughout the event, even though there were moments when he couldn't compete at the highest level. For example, Alcaraz needed a comeback against Francisco Cerundolo in his first match, and he also needed a comeback against Arthur Fils.
In the final, the four-time Grand Slam champion took on Lorenzo Musetti, who recorded great wins over the likes of Matteo Berrettini, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Alex de Minaur to reach the final.
Although Alcaraz was the first to break in the match, doing so already in the opening game, the following moments were Musetti's. The Italian player broke back and added one more break to lead 3-1 in the first set.
Musetti then controlled the proceedings on his serve, not allowing another break point in the first set. While Alcaraz also didn't face any break points, Musetti's one-break lead was enough to win the first set 6-3.
Alcaraz then significantly stepped up his level in the second set of the match. The Spaniard broke his opponent's serve twice while producing some ridiculous rallies, and in no time, he was up 5-0.
The ATP World No. 3 player then had troubles serving out the second set. At 5-1, he didn't use three consecutive set points, allowing his opponent to have four break points.
But the Italian player also couldn't use his chances to get back into the set, and on his fourth set point, Alcaraz won the second set of this match 6-1, sending the match into the decider.
Fans in the Principality were likely excited to see an epic third set, but that never happened. Alcaraz broke his opponent's serve twice at the start, as Musetti started struggling with a leg injury.
The Italian player even called a physio, but it was clear that he couldn't continue in the match. Still, with the respect to the crowd that supported him throughout the tournament, Musetti stayed on the court, wanting to finish the match and avoid retiring.
Obviously, he couldn't win another game, and Alcaraz won the final match 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, winning the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters.
As a result of this win, Alcaraz will also rise to the World No. 2 position, overtaking Alexander Zverev. He will now trail Jannik Sinner only by 2,210 points.
