Roger Federer seems to be tired of retirement, and he wants to return to the tennis courts, filling up stadiums around the world.
Federer is a tennis icon. Millions of fans around the world fell in love with the sport because of the Swiss Maestro. He is one of the reasons why the sport is so successful today, and after his retirement at the 2022
Laver Cup, many were worried they wouldn't have a chance to see him on the tennis courts again.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion hinted multiple times that
he would want to organize some exhibition matches, but it's been nearly three years since his retirement, and the former Swiss player has yet to appear on the tennis court.
Of course, Federer was seen at some promotional events, hitting balls with kids, but seeing him in a proper exhibition match against his rival Rafael Nadal is something that tennis fans would want to see.
It seems that the wait might be over. During a recent interview with
TNT Sports, Federer said that he would want to finally start playing tennis again and start filling up stadiums around the world.
"Honestly, I would love to play some more tennis again. Enough with the golf already for the moment now, I’ve played so much. Seriously, I would love to start playing two or three times a week and hopefully get myself back on the exhibition court and hopefully maybe fill up a few nice stadiums around the world."
At the same time, Federer admitted that he doesn't have any specific plan at the moment, but he knows that he wants to play again.
"I have no plans yet, but I know that the training part, I miss it a little bit because I haven’t played a whole lot since I retired, because my body needed a break, and also my mind a little bit.
Federer also spoke about his beloved Laver cup. In 2025, Team World will host the competition again, and it will be played at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
"For the Laver Cup to come back to America is always great. We were in Chicago and Boston, two very successful Laver Cups, and now we're going to San Francisco."
"It's an amazing stadium, where the Golden State Warriors play. I’ve been there, and I thought it was incredible. I wish I could play this year, but those days are over. I really enjoyed it as a fan. From what I’m hearing, ticket sales are going really well, and I think the Bay Area will embrace tennis."
"They don’t see much tennis overall, and some of the greatest players on the planet are coming. It's really exciting. Berlin was a huge success in Germany. I was there last year and had the best time. I'm sure San Francisco will be equally successful."
