The entry list for the 2025 Qatar Open in Doha has finally been released, and it was worth the wait. Several significant names in women's tennis have committed to playing in the WTA 1000 tournament.

Most entry lists are usually released a few weeks before the event's start date. For example, the 2025 Merida Open and 2025 ATX Open in Texas, both starting on February 24th, have already unveiled their entry lists.

The entry list for the Qatar Open's main draw, which begins on February 10th, had yet to be released when the events in Merida and Texas announced them. However, the entry lists have finally been confirmed for fans.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka resisted any temptation to skip the Qatar Open after losing the 2025 Australian Open final to Madison Keys. The Belarusian was beaten 5-7 in the third set after a battle filled with great hitting.

Sabalenka, who won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024, skipped last year's tournament in Doha. She then lost in the opening round of the Dubai Championships after an uncharacteristically lackluster performance against Donna Vekic.

After winning the Australian Open, the three-time Grand Slam champion admitted she struggled to re-focus. Despite how tough the loss was, falling to Keys might give her more motivation for the Middle Eastern swing.

Iga Swiatek will defend her Qatar Open title. The Pole defeated Elena Rybakina in last year's final 7-6, 6-2, cruising to victory in the second set after battling through an enthralling opening set decided by fine margins.

Swiatek, who lost to Keys in the Australian Open semifinal despite holding a match point, has points from five titles to defend until the end of the French Open. That makes this period crucial in the race for the No. 1 ranking.

The four-time French Open champion narrowly trails Sabalenka at No. 1. However, dropping many of the points she won last year could put her several points behind her rival. It promises to be another entertaining battle for that spot.

Coco Gauff will have her first chance to respond after losing in the Australian Open quarterfinal to Paula Badosa at the Qatar Open. That halted the 20-year-old's momentum after an excellent few months, including winning the WTA Finals.

Gauff is the world No. 3 but remains many points behind Sabalenka and Swiatek. She will need to enjoy an exceptional season to have a chance of challenging them for the year-end No. 1 ranking.

It will be interesting to see how Elena Rybakina performs at the Qatar Open. Goran Ivanisevic left her team after the Australian Open, a decision that appeared to be linked to Rybakina's desire to add controversial ex-coach Stefano Vukov to her team again.

Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, Jasmine Paolini, Paula Badosa, and Mirra Andreeva are some of the other players on the Qatar Open entry list. The opening WTA 1000 tournament of 2025 should be a great event.

Unfortunately, Australian Open champion Keys withdrew from the tournament in Doha with a hamstring injury. Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka also pulled out of the alternates list with an abdominal problem.
