The 2025
Los Cabos Open will be the first
ATP hard-court tournament since March, and the
prize money and ranking points are now publicly known.
In August 2016, the first edition of the Los Cabos Open was played. Ivo Karlovic, one of the best servers in tennis history, won his eighth and final ATP title by overcoming Feliciano Lopez in the final.
Subsequent winners of the popular Mexican ATP 250 tournament have been Sam Querrey, Fabio Fognini, Diego Schwartzman, Cameron Norrie, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and
Jordan Thompson.
Last year's edition was held in February for the first time because of the disruption caused by the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 2025 iteration, scheduled for July 14th to 19th, is back in its previous slot of late July to early August.
Many great players on the entry list.
Lorenzo Musetti, who recently enjoyed a superb clay-court swing, plans to switch to hard courts after Wimbledon. Hopefully, the Italian will be fit for Wimbledon and the Los Cabos Open after retiring from his 2025 Roland Garros semifinal with an injury.
Andrey Rublev,
Denis Shapovalov, and defending champion Thompson are among the other players who will fight for the most significant share of the prize money and ranking points on offer at the event.
The 2025 Los Cabos Open champion will earn $135,325 and 250 ranking points. That is a slight decrease from the $139,190 awarded to
Thompson when he upset Casper Ruud in the 2024 final in Mexico.
Juan Martin Del Potro, Taylor Fritz, and Alex de Minaur have all finished as the runner-up in Los Cabos since the tournament began. 165 ranking points and $78,695 will be the rewards for whichever man replicates that feat.
The two losing semifinalists' financial and ranking point rewards are still decent. $46,420 is the guaranteed financial amount, and 100 points could boost the rankings of many players in the draw.
The benefits begin to diminish after the quarterfinal stage. Thanasi Kokkinakis, Alex Michelsen, Nuno Borges, and Aleksandar Kovacevic were the defeated quarterfinalists at the 2024 Los Cabos Open.
$26,895 and 50 points go to the quartet of men who fall in the 2025 quarterfinals in Los Cabos. The strength of the entry list means very good players are guaranteed to lose at that stage of this year's event.
One victory is needed to reach the round of 16, except for the Top 4 seeds, who will receive a bye into the second round. The players who make that point will collect $15,615 and 25 ranking points.
No ranking points are awarded to players who lose in the opening rounds of ATP 250 tournaments, but the 12 players who suffer that fate at the Los Cabos Open are still set to earn $9,545.
The 2025 Bastad Open and the 2025 Swiss Open, both played on clay, are scheduled at the same time as the event in Los Cabos, giving players options for which surface they want to compete on during that week.
