The 2025
Los Cabos Open occurs at a different period of the season than last year, but that has not stopped several great players from committing to the tournament.
From 2016 until 2023, the
ATP 250 event took place between the second half of July and the first half of August. It was moved to February 2024 because the Olympics were held in its previous slot.
The Mexican event has now returned to its previous slot after Wimbledon. It will run in 2025 from July 14th to 20th, immediately after the Wimbledon championships, alongside the 2025 Bastad Open and the 2025 Swiss Open.
Jordan Thompson is the defending champion after beating Casper Ruud in last year's final. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, and Fabio Fognini are among the other players who have won the event since it started in 2016.
Lorenzo Musetti is among those on the Los Cabos Open
entry list. Some might have expected him to choose one of the clay-court tournaments in Bastad or Gstaad because he has been one of the best players worldwide on the dirt this year.
The Italian was the only man to reach at least the semifinals in Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome, and at Roland Garros. Playing whenever possible on clay might have seemed like an ideal way of racking up ranking points.
Instead, Musetti will immediately switch to hard courts after Wimbledon as he attempts to build momentum for the Masters 1000 tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati before the 2025 US Open.
That shows Musetti believes in his ability to succeed at big tournaments on all surfaces. This year's Monte-Carlo Masters runner-up is uber-talented and can trouble opponents in any conditions.
Andrey Rublev is another man on the Los Cabos Open entry list. His best moment this season was
winning February's Qatar Open, triumphing over Jack Draper in the final in three sets.
However, 2025 has been a challenging season for Rublev overall. He has failed to reach the quarterfinals of any Grand Slams or Masters 1000 events this season, which is unusual for a player of his stature.
Denis Shapovalov will play in Mexico for the second time this season. The Canadian reached the semifinal in Acapulco, losing in the semifinal 6-7, 6-7 to
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
That run in Acapulco came a few weeks after
Shapovalov won the biggest title of his career at the 2025 Dallas Open. The 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist has struggled for form in the three months since competing in Acapulco.
Davidovich Fokina, one of the sport's most mercurial figures, would be fun to watch at the Los Cabos Open. Hopefully, the Spaniard is fit after withdrawing from the 2025 Queen's Club Championships, which
led to Carlos Alcaraz getting a new opponent.
Defending champion Thompson,
Brandon Nakashima,
Borna Coric,
Daniel Altmaier, and
Cameron Norrie are among the other players on the Los Cabos Open entry list. The list features an exciting mix of young talent and experience, and it promises to be great viewing.
