Denis Shapovalov enjoyed a fantastic week at the 2025 Dallas Open when he beat everyone standing in his way to win the biggest trophy of his tennis career.

Shapovalov was once considered to be one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour. Although his talent can't be denied, there probably aren't many who would be ambitious enough to call him a future World No. 1 today like they did five years ago.

That number of people might increase after this week, as Shapovalov once again reminded everyone why he once was a player who was predicted to win multiple Grand Slam titles.

While some tennis players might get a bit lucky with the draw when they win their biggest title, that certainly wasn't Shapovalov's case in Dallas. In fact, he recorded an impressive feat, beating the top three seeded players to win the title at the ATP 500 event.

The Canadian player started with a win over Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round. He then beat the top-seeded Taylor Fritz in the second round before outplaying Tomas Machac in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, the 25-year-old player bested the third-seeded Tommy Paul.

His final opponent was the second-seeded Casper Ruud, who bested James Duckworth, Michael Mmoh, Yoshihito Nishioka, and Jaume Munar to reach the final in Dallas.

Throughout the week, the Norwegian player sported a nasal strip, which he explained helped him to breathe better, but even that couldn't help him against an incredibly inspired Shapovalov in the final.

The Canadian player had the only break point in the first set, and even though he couldn't use it, he didn't need to. The set was decided in a tie-break, and Shapovalov was the better player, winning it 7-5.

Shapovalov was the first player to get to break points also in the second set, and this time, he used his chances, leading 2-0 early on. Ruud then had his only break chance in the next game.

But the Norwegian player couldn't use it, and thanks to his opponent's great serving, he didn't get another chance to break again. Shapovalov hit 13 aces in the match, and he overwhelmed Ruud with his incredibly aggressive style.

Shapovalov won the final match 7-6(5), 6-3, to claim the trophy in Dallas, winning the biggest title of his career. He previously won the ATP 250 tournaments in Stockholm and Belgrade.

Although Shapovalov will certainly have enough reasons to celebrate his win, there will be at least one more added reason. Thanks to his win at the ATP 500 event, the Canadian player will improve his position in the ATP Rankings by 22 places.

That means he will be the World No. 32 player after the tournament, which would guarantee him a seeding spot at the majors. Shapovalov was last seeded at a Grand Slam tournament in 2023 at the Wimbledon Championships.
