The 2025 Indian Wells Open is one of the most significant events on the ATP and WTA calendars, and the entry list for the men's singles has been released.

Sometimes referred to as the "fifth Grand Slam," the Indian Wells Open is a player favorite because of the stunning location and how well those participating in the tournament get treated throughout their stay.

Carlos Alcaraz won the 2024 Indian Wells Open men's singles title. He defended his title from 2023 by winning the final against Daniil Medvedev, who recently split from Gilles Simon.

Unsurprisingly, two-time defending champion Alcaraz has committed to returning to the tournament. He is currently competing at the 2025 Rotterdam Open, where he beat Botic van de Zandschulp in his opening match.

Alcaraz's preparation for the Indian Wells Open might be better than last year's because he plays at hard-court tournaments in Rotterdam and the 2025 Qatar Open instead of the clay events in Buenos Aires and Rio, where he had featured in the last couple of years.

However, playing in South America did not harm him at the Indian Wells Open in 2023 and 2024. It will be interesting to see whether Alcaraz hits the ground running once again in 2025.

Djokovic's participation in Indian Wells looked doubtful after he retired from his semifinal match at the 2025 Australian Open with Alexander Zverev due to a torn muscle in his left hamstring. He was controversially booed for that move.

Some early estimations indicated that the 37-year-old could be out for several weeks and might not be fit enough to compete on the ATP Tour again until the clay-court season starts in April.

However, a recent report was optimistic about Djokovic's chances of being fit for the Qatar Open, which starts February 17th, because the injury was not as severe as a similar issue two years ago.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion will hope to perform much better than last year in Indian Wells when he lost to Luca Nardi in the round of 32. It was one of the most unexpected results of the 2024 season.

Jannik Sinner has established himself as the best hard-court player in the world, including winning the last three Grand Slams on the surface. The most recent was triumphing at the 2025 Australian Open.

Despite that dominance, Sinner has yet to win the Indian Wells Open, and he won't change that in 2025. He was suspended from competing for three months, which made it impossible for him to play in Indian Wells.

In his absence, Alexander Zverev, the recent Australian Open runner-up, should be the No. 1 seed at the Indian Wells Open. He will try to perform well in California to help him overcome his third Grand Slam final loss.

Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Jack Draper, Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the recent Montpellier Open champion Felix Auger-Aliasisme are among the other names on the entry list.
