The Asian swing will officially start on the
ATP Tour with the start of the
Hangzhou Open in China, and the
draw for the event has been released.
Women start their Asian swing a couple of days earlier than men, as the Korea Open in Seoul starts already on September 15th. Men's first events start, untraditionally, on Wednesday, September 17th. The first two tournaments of the Asian swing are the ATP 250 events in Chengdu and Hangzhou.
The Hangzhou Open is one of the newest events on the ATP Tour. In fact, it was first held in 2024, with
Marin Cilic beating home player
Zhizhen Zhang in the singles final, while Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth secured the doubles title by beating Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens.
This year, both the defending champion and last year's finalist will return to the event, but neither of them is seeded. Zhang even needed a wild card to enter the tournament. He will start against fellow compatriot Yunchaokete Bu.
The winner of this only all-Chinese first-round matchup can then play against a Grand Slam finalist in the second round.
Matteo Berrettini will return to action as the eighth seeded in Hangzhou. The Italian player will play against one of the qualifiers in the first round.
The defending champion, Cilic, will also start against one of the players who will succeed in the qualifying. If the Croatian navigates that match successfully, he will take on the second-seeded
Daniil Medvedev in the second round. The Russian player has a first-round bye, and he will try to find his lost form with
a new coaching team.
The top four seeds have a first-round bye, so that applies also to the top-seeded
Andrey Rublev. The world No. 14 will start against the winner of the match between Aleksandar Kovacevic and Luca Nardi. It will be a challenging second-round test for Rublev.
The third-seeded
Alexander Bublik also has a first-round bye, and he, too, will face a difficult test in his first match. Bublik will either player a former Top 10 player,
David Goffin, or Aleksandar Vukic, who secured Australia's spot in the 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 during the Davis Cup weekend.
The fourth seed, and the last player with a bye in the first round, is
Corentin Moutet. The fourth-seeded Frenchman can meet compatriot Arthur Cazaux in the second round, or he can play against Italian
Matteo Arnaldi.
There are two players who are not seeded in Hangzhou, but probably everyone wanted to avoid them in the draw.
Sebastian Korda certainly has Top 10 potential, and he will want to prove it in his first-round match against Adam Walton.
The other unseeded player with a great deal of talent is another home wild card,
Yibing Wu. The Chinese player will take on the sixth-seeded
Adrian Mannarino in the first round.
