The
draw for the 2025
Cincinnati Open has been released, and it also features the two best tennis players in the world.
The
ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati will be the last tournament of such category before this year's US Open. It will run from August 7th until August 18th, and the tournament will feature a much stronger draw than the Canadian Open held in the weeks prior.
The reason for that is simple. The two highest-ranked players on the ATP Tour,
Carlos Alcaraz and
Jannik Sinner, will both compete at the tournament in Cincinnati after taking a couple of weeks off after their Wimbledon final.
On the other hand,
Novak Djokovic will miss the tournament. He isn't the only one, as the likes of Jack Draper, Grigor Dimitrov, and Alexander Bublik also withdrew from the tournament.
After their absence from the tournament in Toronto, obviously, all eyes will be on Sinner and Alcaraz. As the top two seeds, their names appear on the opposite sides of the draw.
Sinner, who is the top seed, will start against a qualifier or Vit Kopriva. In the third round of the tournament, he could take on the 30th-seeded Gabriel Diallo, who has a powerful serve and could trouble the World No. 1 player.
Alcaraz's name appears on line 128, the last in the draw. He, too, like all the seeded players, has a first-round bye. The Spaniard will await the winner of the match between Mattia Bellucci and Damir Dzumhur in the second round of the tournament. His third-round opponent could be the 26th-seeded
Tallon Griekspoor.
Former champions on hunt for second title in Cincinnati
Sinner is one of the former champions, and as last year's winner, he is also the defending champion. However, he isn't the only player in the draw who managed to win a trophy in Cincinnati before.
In 2019,
Daniil Medvedev won this event. This year, the Russian player is the 12th seed. He will start against a qualifier or Adam Walton in the second round. Then, he could play against the 22nd-seeded
Jiri Lehecka.
Alexander Zverev is another former champion in the draw. He won the event in 2021, and after being the top seed in Canada this year, he will be the third seed in Cincinnati. The German player landed in Alcaraz's half, and he will meet
Gael Monfils or Nishesh Basavareddy in the second round. Then, he could play against
Brandon Nakashima.
Borna Coric is also a former champion in Cincinnati. He shockingly won the title in 2022, but repeating that feat this year won't be easy. He isn't among the seeded players, starting against Christopher O'Connell in the first round. If he wins that match, his second-round opponent will be the fourth-seeded
Taylor Fritz.
Next generation ready to join Alcaraz and Sinner on the big stage
Apart from Alcaraz and Sinner, there will be more youngsters who will try to win the ATP Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati. One of them is the fifth-seeded
Ben Shelton. The American could play against
Kei Nishikori in the second round, which will happen if the Japanese player beats Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
Holger Rune is another youngster who wants to win big titles. He is the seventh seed, and his first opponent in Cincinnati will be Alejandro Tabilo or
Roman Safiullin.
