Novak Djokovic's preparation for this year's US Open took a significant hit after he withdrew from the 2025 Cincinnati Open.
Djokovic is still chasing his 25th Grand Slam trophy, which would forever rewrite the history tables. His last major title came at the US Open two years ago, and since then, the Serbian has competed at seven Grand Slams without winning another title.
His next chance will come at this year's US Open, but it seems that Djokovic won't play any matches on the hard courts before starting his campaign at the Flushing Meadows.
After withdrawing from the Canadian Open, like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic has now added another withdrawal. While Sinner is already practicing in Cincinnati, clearly signalling his return to the courts in the United States, tennis fans will have to wait a bit more to see the 38-year-old legend compete again.
The 2025 Cincinnati Open, the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament before the US Open, will take place from August 7th to 18th. However, it will be played without the event's three-time champion, Djokovic, who has withdrawn from the tournament.
Djokovic last lifted a trophy in Cincinnati in 2023, but last year, he also missed the tournament. After that, he was shockingly stunned already in the third round of the US Open.
This year, the tournament will be held without Djokovic as well, as his name disappeared from the entry list. Djokovic hasn't commented on his withdrawal, but it's most likely because of his physical issues that have bothered him also at Wimbledon.

How can Djokovic still compete before the US Open

There is still a chance that Djokovic might appear on the tennis courts before the US Open. The 2025 Winston-Salem Open is an ATP 250 tournament, which runs from August 17th until August 23rd, but the Serbian player likely won't choose this option.
As one of the contenders to win the title in New York, he likely won't want to spend a week competing in Winston-Salem. If he joins the field, the likes of Arthur Fils, Sebastian Korda, and Alex Michelsen would await him at the event.

Djokovic isn't the only one who withdrew from the US Open

Djokovic isn't the only one who withdrew from the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. Jack Draper also withdrew from the event, as did Matteo Berrettini and Alexander Bublik.
Grigor Dimitrov, Sebastian Korda, and Jenson Brooksby also withdrew from the Cincinnati Open. The tournament will also be held without Hubert Hurkacz and Laslo Djere.
