Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner's first meeting since the 2025 Wimbledon Championships demonstrated the pair's warm relationship despite their rivalry.
Neither man has competed since they contested the Wimbledon final. Along with Novak Djokovic, they withdrew from the 2025 Canadian Open, held as a 96-player draw over 12 days for the first time this year.
Their withdrawals from the men's singles in Toronto were a significant blow for the organizers since Alcaraz and Sinner have established themselves as the best ATP players in the world and dominated the sport since the start of 2024.
They have won the last seven Grand Slams: four for Sinner and three for Alcaraz. The duo also contested the last two major finals. Alcaraz won the first of them at the 2025 French Open after saving three championship points.
Sinner got his revenge by defeating the Spaniard in four sets to secure a maiden Wimbledon crown. Achieving that after his devastating loss to the same player at Roland Garros was an outstanding achievement.

Alcaraz and Sinner's meeting in Cincinnati

The Top two ATP players will next play at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. Djokovic withdrew from the tournament in Ohio, but Alcaraz and Sinner are already in the U.S. state to prepare for the event.
Clips of the duo greeting each other on the practice court are not uncommon because of their friendly relationship, but the latest video showed them going even further by having a conversation.
Alcaraz revealed to Sinner that he spent a few weeks at home in Spain during the few weeks after Wimbledon, giving him an opportunity to recharge his batteries before traveling to the U.S. for the Cincinnati Open and the US Open.
"I did nothing crazy. Yeah, at home. I spent two weeks at home, one week in the south of Spain. It was nice. Three weeks in the summer at home, I felt bored. It was different. There was at least one year when I didn't see all my friends, all the people, doing whatever they want."
The video then skips to the duo and their team members saying goodbye to one another. There was not a hint of animosity at any stage, showing the unique warmth and respect that Alcaraz and Sinner have for each other.

Could anything damage Alcaraz and Sinner's relationship?

Although not all rivalries have to be built on animosity, Alcaraz and Sinner are original in how much they like each other. Even Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, known for their mutual respect and now being friends, had a few flare-ups over the years.
Although it might seem impossible currently, an erosion in relations between the Top 2 cannot be ruled out. Sinner turns 24 this month, and Alcaraz is 22, meaning there is much time ahead for an incident in a significant match that causes tension.
Jannik Sinner's doping case and three-month suspension in a case settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency caused significant controversy and division, but it was not enough to hurt his relationship with Alcaraz. The Spaniard has avoided commenting much about that topic.
