The ATP 250 event at the ASB Classic in Auckland takes place this week, and the prize money breakdown has been revealed.

First played in 1956, the ATP 250 tournament in Auckland is one of the oldest on the tennis calendar. That means there have been high-profile champions over the years in New Zealand for almost 70 years.

Juan Martin Del Potro, David Ferrer, Fernando Gonzalez, Gustavo Kuerten, and Richard Gasquet, who will retire from professional tennis after this year's French Open, are among the former winners of the ASB Classic.

Alejandro Tabilo had a surprising run to the title last year as a qualifier. That included a semifinal win against Arthur Fils and a triumph in the final against Taro Daniel, who had beaten Ben Shelton during his run.

Shelton announced he would play at the ASB Classic again in an announcement last season. He will be the top seed in Auckland if he does not withdraw. Tabilo returns as the defending champion and No. 2 seed.

The total prize money pot for the men's singles at the ASB Classic is $766,290. It will be distributed among the various rounds of the main draw, with the largest share going to the tournament winner.

This year's ASB Classic in the men's singles will receive $103,455. That player is also set to receive 250 ranking points, which could allow the individual to shoot up the rankings depending on where they are at the start of the week.

The losing finalist in Auckland will have $60,350 added to their bank account, and 165 ranking points added to their total. Daniel's run to the final last year was a surprise, making his final with Tabilo one of the most unexpected of 2024.

Shelton and Fils, two of the most talented young players on the ATP Tour, would have been disappointed with their losses last year. However, those who fall at that stage this season will be given 100 ranking points and $35,480.

Roberto Carballes Baena, Alexandre Muller, Daniel Altmaier, and Cameron Norrie were 2024's losing quarterfinalists at the ASB Classic. Those four players will collect $20,555 and 50 ranking points this year.

Just one victory is needed to reach the round of 16 and earn 25 ranking points. Players who do not go further after that point will earn $11,935 for being among the 16 best players at the ASB Classic.

ATP 250 tournaments with 32-man draws do not award ranking points to players who lose in the opening round. However, $7,295 will still be awarded to those who fail to win a main draw match in Auckland.

Shelton and Tabilo will be joined by other stars, such as the huge-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who defeated Nick Kyrgios during his run to the semifinal of the Brisbane International. Much great tennis should be played in the men's singles at the ASB Classic.
