The draw for the 2025 Argentina Open has been released. It will be an exciting tournament for many different reasons.
The 2025 Argentina Open will run from February 10th to 16th in Buenos Aires. It's the first tournament of the so-called Golden Swing, which is a series of ATP tournaments in South America. The Argentina Open is the first of those events, followed by the Rio Open and the Chile Open.
In the previous seasons, Carlos Alcaraz competed during the Golden Swing, but the Spaniard chose a different approach this year. He competes at the Rotterdam Open, where he reached the final.
Instead, Alexander Zverev will be the main star during this year's Golden Swing. The German player will be the top seed in Buenos Aires, and like all the top four seeded players at this event, he has a first-round bye.
But the ATP World No. 2 player will face a proper challenge already in the second round. His opponent will be the winner of the match between Roberto Carballes Baena and Dusan Lajovic.
On the opposite side of the draw is the second-seeded Holger Rune, who has decided to join Zverev on this South American adventure in 2025. The Danish player was also given a challenging draw.
He knows the fans won't support him in the second round as his opponent will certainly be an Argentinian. Mariano Navone and Francisco Comesana will meet in an all-Argentinian first-round clash, with the winner taking on the young Dane.
But Rune's name isn't the only interesting name in this section. 18-year-old Joao Fonseca is also in this quarter. The teenager will play against the eighth-seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first round, and the fans will be certainly delighted by this meeting.
Argentinian and Brazilian fans share a big rivalry, and this is not the only such match in the draw either. Thiago Seyboth Wild from Brazil will take on Facundo Diaz Acosta in another such derby.
Apart from the top favorites to win the trophy in Buenos Aires, there will be another story written in the Argentinian capital. There probably won't be any player who will receive more support than Diego Schwartzman.
The 32-year-old Argentinian has won this event in 2021, but the 2025 edition of the tournament might be even more special for him than the one four years ago. This will be Schwartzman's last professional tennis tournament.
He has decided to end his tennis career, and there is no better place to do it than a clay court in Argentina. But the draw was ruthless to him, giving him the seventh-seeded Nicolas Jarry in the first round.
An interesting part of the draw will see the third-seeded Lorenzo Musetti await the winner of the match between Corentin Moutet and Jaume Munar in the second round.
