Nick Kyrgios is yet to play a match this season and it won't change anytime soon as he withdrew from the 2023 Madrid Open.
It all started well for the Australian this season when he arrived in Melbourne and took part in an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic, in which he managed to show some of his craft. But Kyrgios soon needed to announce bad news as he was forced to withdraw from the 2023 Australian Open.
And his injury woes didn't end there. After his surgery, Kyrgios and his team were optimistic to come back at Indian Wells. But that plan also wasn't successful as the 2022 Wimbledon finalist withdrew from the Sunshine Double.
Now it's time for a clay-court part of the season, and although the Australian usually misses a major part of it and is yet to play at the Roland Garros since 2017. But this year, Kyrgios wants to compete in the French Open as he admitted that his girlfriend wants to see Paris and so he planned to make his way into the competition.
But now, it's very unsure whether he'll make it to the French capital. Kyrgios withdrew from the ATP 1000 tournament in Madrid, and although he's still on the entry list for the event in Rome, it's expected that he may withdraw from that one too and skip the clay-court season altogether in 2023.
This season, Kyrgios is yet to play a match after he won 37 last year in what was his best season in terms of winning percentage with 79%, compared to 74% from 2016 when he finished the year as world no. 13 and won 43 matches.
For tennis fans there's nothing left to do just hope that the Australian who can always entertain with his tennis will soon return to the competition and that it will be during his favourite grass-court season.
