Nick Kyrgios has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami Open due to a knee injury.
Kyrgios underwent knee surgery in January this year, and while his recovery initially seemed to be going well, it now appears that he has not fully healed in time for the upcoming tournaments.
When talking about the surgery just recently, Kyrgios' agent, Daniel Horsfall, hinted that the Australian should return to the tennis courts in Indian Wells, but it appears that something must have changed.
Back then, Horsfall claimed that the Australian player's surgery was "a great success" and that they were "pleased with the outcome." That will now be questioned since he predicted Kyrgios' comeback in Indian Wells, and that won't happen.
"The surgery was a great success. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome of it. Now we will be pushing ahead for a speedy recovery and are aiming to see everyone at Indian Wells."
Kyrgios' fans will certainly be disappointed by his withdrawal, especially since he hasn't appeared in competitive action since the end of the 2022 season, which was the best season of his tennis career.
At the start of the year, Kyrgios won his maiden Grand Slam title in doubles with Thanasi Kokkinakis, but he couldn't defend it this year. Then he played also in the Wimbledon Championships singles final. Now, however, he's unfortunately dealing with an injury.
However, the Australian isn't the only player struggling with an injury as the event may take place also without the World No. 2, Carlos Alcaraz, who renewed his injury during the recent Rio Open final.
Also former World No. 1, Daniil Medvedev recently spoke about how tennis balls are making players more injury-prone and so it's obvious that the ATP Tour is facing a lot of withdrawals right now.
