Rafael Nadal and Emma Raducanu are both nominated for the Best Athlete in the Men's and Women's tennis categories for the 2022 ESPYs.

Nadal, who won the first two Grand Slams of the year, has been a standout performer on the ATP tour despite grappling with pain and injuries. Other contenders for the award include Felix Auger-Aliassime who lead Canada to the ATP Cup triumph as well as improving his level further and winning his maiden trophy. Another one is Carlos Alcaraz who won two ATP 1000 events this year while breaking into the top 10 already.

Iga Swiatek dominated the women's tour this season to find a rightful place among the nominees for the ESPY Awards alongside Ashleigh Barty, Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez. Barty has obviously since retired and probably won't contend seriously for the trophy having had an overall better year last year. Emma Raducanu did something incredible at the US Open last year but failed to live up to the hype afterwards.

Leylah Fernandez has had a steady run after US Open but is currently out with a foot injury. That leaves Iga Swiatek who is still unbeaten since spring came along. Swiatek has been the best player in the world by far this year and she's certainly the front runner to win this award, as she should.
