On today's ranking Daniil Medvedev was number one with Alexander Zverev number two and that's the first time since November 16, 2003 that neither Federer nor Nadal or Djokovic have been ranked number 1 and 2.

Something incredible happened today on the ATP Rankings but it's not the fact that the incredible streak ended, it's mostly that it existed in the first place. If you ever wondered why so many tennis fans talk about the Big Three so much you just need to keep reading this article.

For those of you who never watched a yellow ball fly across a net, the Big Three consists of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. They are the most dominant trio this sport has ever seen and each has a genuine case for being the greatest. Even so, they are is slowly expiring. Yes, it's still going strong but now it's mostly a big two.

And the big two might become 'the big one' and then they will leave the sport. Maybe today is the first of many endings that will see off the Big Three from tennis. Today is the first time since 2003 that neither member of the Big Three was ranked either first or second. Today those places go to Medvedev and Zverev with Djokovic third and Nadal fourth. That's why they matter so much.
