Rafael Nadal is preparing for Wimbledon and was spotted practicing behind closed doors on grass.
Contrary to earlier reports of Nadal's withdrawal from the grass-court major, the Spaniard is determined to be in London later this month to vie for his third Wimbledon and record-extending 23rd Grand Slam crown.
It looks like Toni Nadal was right when he stated a few days ago that Rafael Nadal would play at Wimbledon. The 36-year-old had been battling a chronic foot problem during the European clay-court swing but produced gusty wins over the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Novak Djokovic at the French Open.
In the final, Nadal beat Casper Ruud to lift his 14th Roland Garros. But immediately after the match, his foot injury resurfaced, and the tennis community was led to believe that the former World No. 1 would not compete at Wimbledon in order to rest and recover.
But the first picture of Nadal practicing on grass has now been shared on the internet after he was spotted in Mallorca. According to Spanish journalist Jose Moron, the former World No. 1 has not confirmed if he will play, and his coaching team is currently trying to gauge Nadal's "feelings".
"The EFE Agency reports that Rafa Nadal trained behind closed doors this morning on the grass courts of the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça. We are still waiting for news from his surroundings to find out if the feelings are positive and if he will be able to be at Wimbledon."
It's unclear how much he did on the courts behind closed doors, but it's good news for Nadal fans that he accumulated minutes on grass. Nadal openly admitted at Roland Garros that he won't play at Wimbledon with the same approach of taking daily injections.
He underwent a procedure in Barcelona after the clay-court Grand Slam and was walking on crutches.
