Nick Kyrgios was ranked as the second-best tennis player in the world by a special rating called UTR.
The ATP creates its own ATP Rankings, which are published every week. However, there are also other rankings, such as the one made by the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR), which awards players a rating based on the opponents they play.
UTR scores players on a 16-point scale. It's mostly used by amateurs who want to compete regularly and take on someone who has a similar level. By checking each other's scores, players are able to match well.
The UTR considers the last 30 matches within a 12-month period. It also bases its ratings based on the results of the matches, not only if someone has won or lost.
Since the UTR uses a different approach than the ATP, it's not a surprise that the Top 10 is also a bit different. While most of the players are the same, as being ranked high means performing consistently in both of these rankings, the order is much different.
The UTR is dominated by Novak Djokovic, who is fifth in the ATP Rankings. The ATP World No. 22 player, Nick Kyrgios, is the second-best player ahead of the third Daniil Medvedev and No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the UTR Ranking.
On the other hand, the ATP World No. 2, Rafael Nadal, is only fifth in the UTR Ranking, and he's followed by Taylor Fritz. The youngest ATP World No. 1 in the history of men's tennis, Carlos Alcaraz, is ranked only seventh with the rest of the Top 10 in the UTR Rankings including Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and Holger Rune.
