Taylor Fritz survived a bit of a tricky match against Denis Shapovalov at the 2023 Miami Open to continue a rather solid season by winning the match in straight sets.

No player has played as much tennis this year as Taylor Fritz has. He has been everywhere, playing a total of 24 matches before this one. The season is only in March, though, and this simply proves that he has been really grinding it out.

That much tennis didn’t yield too many great results, even though he did win the trophy at the Delray Beach Open. He’s been looking pretty solid in Miami too, winning the first match against Emilio Nava rather easily.

His second match was a bit tougher because he was facing a very talented player in Denis Shapovalov, who can do some amazing stuff with a tennis racket.

The opening set was fast-paced, taking about 40 minutes, with Fritz coming out on top 6-4. The American didn’t allow a single break point and used the only one he had. Both did well with the serve, but Shapovalov was risking more, and it backfired.

Fritz was even more impressive in the second set as he once again didn’t allow a single break point. Fritz generally didn’t have a problem holding his serve the entire match.

On the serve of Shapovalov, Fritz was able to create enough chances, and he finally used one of those to win the second set 6-4 as well.

Overall, it was a really sturdy performance from the American who looks very comfortable behind his serve. Shapovalov did well, but he struggled a couple of times on his serve, which allowed the American chances which he took to win the match.

If Fritz keeps playing well in the upcoming matches, he will be one of the dark horses to win. Holger Rune will be his next opponent, and the American player will want to go further than the quarter-final that he reached in Indian Wells.
