Novak Djokovic held a mysterious press conference that he announced only recently and rescheduled one hour later than the originally scheduled time.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion was supposed to meet reporters at 1 PM in Belgrade, but he rescheduled the press conference to 2 PM, after his practice. On Monday, Djokovic tied Steffi Graf's record for most weeks spent as world no. 1, and the announcement of the press conference made many wonder what the Serb wants to announce.
Leading up to the conference, rumors circulated that Djokovic would announce his participation in the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami Open or reveal the extent of the injury he played through at the Australian Open earlier this year, which he stated he would prove.
During the press conference, Djokovic said that he's still waiting for any good news from the United States about his possible participation at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells and the 2023 Miami Open.
The Serb also spoke about his injury, which he said is almost healed now, and announced that he would compete at the 2023 Dubai Championships, an event where he's the leading player on the entry list.
"The injury is fixed, I'm getting close to 100 percent, things are looking very good and as a team we made the decision to go to Dubai. I'm traveling tomorrow and I'll do my best to go as far as possible. Ambitions are the highest in every tournament."
"As for the plans after that - I don't know, it depends on the situation with America. I'm still waiting for an answer, I'd like to, I'm also preparing for a tour there, but we'll see how things go in the next two weeks."
Later in the press conference, Djokovic also confirmed that he intends to play the ATP 250 event in Banja Luka as well as the Monte-Carlo Masters.
