Casper Ruud vs Christopher Eubanks: 2024 Mexican Open Acapulco - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Casper Ruud will clash with a very tricky opponent in the first round of the 2024 Mexican Open Acapulco, taking on Christopher Eubanks.

The Norwegian had a surprising run in Los Cabos making his way to the final of the ATP 250 tournament. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't able to win the trophy as he was sensationally stunned in the final by Jordan Thompson, who had an insanely good week in the Mexican coastal town.

After that experience, Ruud turns his attention to Acapulco, which is a similar court to the one he played on in Los Cabos. In the first round of the ATP 500 tournament, Ruud takes on Eubanks, who can prove to be a tricky opponent.

Head-to-head:

Ruud and Eubanks actually played a couple of times already, with the Norwegian leading the H2H 2-0 overall. The last match they played was actually a few months ago in Shanghai, and Ruud was able to win that match comfortably in two sets.

I think something similar is likely to happen here, even though I like Eubanks' fit on the courts. The American can utilize his power on these courts, but I don't think he'll be able to do so for too long. Sooner or later, the slower courts will come back to haunt him, and that's when Ruud will pounce.

6-1  2024 W/L 3-3
213-116 Career W/L 33-46

Prediction:

Last week in Los Cabos, we saw how well the Norwegian can play on slower, hard courts like this. He's proved it over and over again in recent years, and Acapulco will just be amazing for him. I expect him to outlast Eubanks comfortably on most rallies and close out the match in two simple sets.

Prediction: Casper Ruud to win in two sets.
