This year's Mexican Open in Acapulco promises to be an absolute barnburner given the depth of the playing field and the players competing have learned their draw.
All the top eight seeds in Acapulco are ranked in the world's Top 15, led by Olympic gold medalist and World No. 6 Alexander Zverev. The event has been hit by increased cases of crime within the city, and as such, players have been advised against leaving the tournament's confines.
Looking at the draw, there are no easy matches, especially for the top-seeded players. Zverev will play countryman Daniel Altmaier in his first-round match. If he wins that one, he will take on one of Miomir Kecmanovic or wild card Diego Schwartzman.
There is an exciting battle between British lefty Jack Draper and Dallas champion Tommy Paul. The winner of this match is a potential quarterfinal opponent for the top seed Zverev.
Defending champion Alex de Minaur and Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas also feature in the top half and are in the same section. This means they could lock horns in the quarterfinal. De Minaur begins his title defense against Taro Daniel, while Tsitsipas faces Roman Safiullin.
In the bottom half, sixth seed Casper Ruud will meet big-serving Christopher Eubanks. The talented young Mexican Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez is a wild card entrant and has drawn Serbia's Dusan Lajovic. Fourth seed Taylor Fritz, for his part, will play Matteo Arnaldi.
Second seed Holger Rune rehired Patrick Mouratoglou as coach, and this will be their first tournament together in their second journey. The Dane will play a qualifier to begin with. Cameron Norrie, meanwhile, will play Dominik Koepfer.
Rune's projected quarterfinal opponent is Frances Tiafoe. But the American faces an upset alert against the high-flying Max Purcell in the first round. The complete draw for the 2024 Mexican Open can be seen below.
