Carlos Alcaraz will begin his 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters campaign against Felix Auger-Aliassime, who has already won a match at the event.
Alcaraz hasn't had much success in Monte-Carlo in the past, but he hopes to finally have a deep run in Monaco. He arrived in good spirits after playing some good tennis in the United States, so there are a lot of reasons for optimism.
Auger-Aliassime hasn't had the best season himself, but he started really well in Monaco, winning his first match comfortably. He's actually quite familiar with the courts, as he's based in Monte Carlo and practices on them a lot.
Head-to-head:
Alcaraz and Auger-Aliassime have played a handful of times so far and also once this year. Surprisingly, the Canadian led the matchup so far as he gave the 20-year-old some trouble early on, but the Spaniard was able to win the last two matches.
Funnily enough, they both happened at the Indian Wells Open, where Alcaraz has performed sensationally so far in his career. The most recent meeting from a few weeks ago was an easy win for Alcaraz, so many expect him to win easily on clay as well.
It's a surface that suits the Spaniard better than Auger-Aliassime, but Monte-Carlo hasn't been the best spot for him, and he hasn't played a match on the clay in Monte-Carlo this year so far. Auger-Aliassime did and looked really solid.
Carlos Alcaraz | Felix Auger-Aliassime | |
---|---|---|
2 | H2H | 3 |
3 | Rank | 35 |
20 | Age | 23 |
15-4 | 2024 W/L | 9-8 |
170-47 | Career W/L | 192-130 |
Prediction:
All that being said, I don't really see a way for Auger-Aliassime to win the match. He did look solid recently and can play well on clay, but for the most part, he's not at the level of Alcaraz. The match might be close and tough, but ultimately, I do think that Alcaraz will win comfortably.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
