The 2024
Hamburg Open will run from July 15th to 21st, and the
entry list has been released.
This is an ATP 500 event that will be played during the short clay-court swing immediately after Wimbledon. A total of 32 players will compete to win the tournament, but most importantly, use this event to refine and sharpen their clay-court skills
before the Paris Olympics.
Legendary players have won this tournament in the past, including Stefan Edberg, Gustavo Kuerten, Rafael Nadal, and Switzerland's Roger Federer, who is the most decorated champion in Hamburg in the Open Era with four titles.
Last year,
Alexander Zverev won the tournament in his home city, defeating
Laslo Djere in straight sets in the final. The German will return to defend his crown as the top seed and use this tournament to fine-tune his game ahead of his gold medal defense at the Olympics.
2022 champion Lorenzo Musetti is expected to challenge for the crown, as will
Holger Rune who is in search of his first ATP title in over a year.
Sebastian Baez is looking to win his third title of the season (all on clay).
Players with expertise on the surface include
Francisco Cerundolo, Luciano Darderi,
Matteo Arnaldi, and
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The French contingent will be well represented, with the young and the old, as the veteran
Gael Monfils joins
Arthur Fils and Corentin Moutet.
Djere, last year's runner-up, has uncompleted work in Hamburg after losing the final. He will be among the dangerous floaters in the draw. Others who could potentially spring a surprise include
Pedro Martinez, Flavio Cobolli, and Alexander Shevchenko.
One of the four confirmed with wild cards has gone to Germany's
Dominik Koepfer. Four players will earn a main daw spot through the qualifying rounds, while one player will receive a special exemption spot. You can check the initial entry for the tournament down below.
